Situated in a corner, at the foot of the hill leading up to the Citadel, is Palazzo Antonin. This beautiful decorated place reveals a world of rich red damasks, gold trimmings and mirrors along with Grandmasters’ paintings, magnificent chandeliers, marble tabletops and shiny polished chairs. Since being taken over recently by Anthony the place has became a favourite with Gozitans, Maltese and tourists who stop by for a bite at lunchtime in the luxurious surroundings or choose to sit outside whilst enjoying the bustle of it-Tokk square. Palazzo Antonin offers European, New World and Local food which include traditional food such as Ftajjar, Summien and Timpana. The menu boasts a variety of salads, pasta, pizza, pastizzi, baguettes, the famous Palace breakfast and wine platters. And although the setting might suggest that prices are high, these are very reasonable. On Saturday nights, the Palazzo changes character, hosting live music and becoming a hang-out for young people, who look forward to the beer and wine nights. Food is served until late, ensuring that you can also get a late-night bite. Whether its tea or coffee, the Palazzo offers a range of hot beverages including a tea flower where you can watch its ball slowly sinking into hot water and unfurl into full “bloom”. A wide range of local, European and New World wines complete the extensive wine list, not to forget the good selection of cocktails. Walking into Palazzo Antonin feels like stepping into an aristocratic world from the past.
